About the tour
Portugal's UNESCO World Heritage
Begin your adventure in the charming town of Sintra, world-famous for it's grand palaces and castles, dating back to the Moorish era and the Golden Age of Portugal. You will be left in awe by the glamour of the palaces, which are dotted all around the town of Sintra and into the surrounding Sintra-Cascais nature park.
Throughout your trip, you will pass the town of Alcobaca, home to the UNESCO listed Cistercian Gothic Art Alcobaca monastery from the 12th century. From here, you will continue to Tomar, home to the UNESCO listed Convent of the Knights Templar of Tomar, the university town of Coimbra, home to the oldest university in Europe and on to the charming Douro Valley, world-famous and UNESCO listed for it's romantic river valley flanked by rolling hills covered with vineyards.
The wines of the Douro Valley
The river valley along the Douro river is world famous for it's rolling hills covered with vineyards and the high quality wines produced here. A day in a winery will give you the chance to indulge in all things wine, depending on the season, from learning about the cultivation, the harvesting, engaging in the everyday activities on a wine estate to tasting some of the high quality products.
Exploring the royal city of Sintra
The first two nights of your tour will be spent in the royal city of Sintra. Spend the day exploring the magnificent palaces and pompous manor houses of Sintra. Visit the extravagant Pena Palace, scramble around the ruins of the impressive Moors Castle or wander in the lush gardens of the fabulous Quinta da Regaleira. Enjoy the rest of the days strolling through the lively medieval lanes and relaxing in the small cafes and restaurants of the beautiful town.
