Explore beautiful nature parks, small villages and ancient towns on this active itinerary taking you along the classic route through central and Northern Portugal from Sintra to Tomar and Coimbra all the way to the Douro Valley and Porto. Visit authentic historic Schist villages, relax at a quinta at the banks of the Douro river and explore the beautiful nature of the solated Douro Internacional Nature Park.

TOUR DETAILS

DAY 1 - WELCOME TO PORTUGAL - SINTRA - COASTAL SUNSET CYCLING TOUR (D)

After arriving in Lisbon, you will transfer to Sintra. Enjoy the afternoon strolling through the lively medieval lanes of the beautiful town. Time permitting, you can also visit one of the magnificent palaces or pompous manor houses.  A relaxing guided e-bike tour is waiting for you in the evening, taking you from Sintra through small villages all the way to the coast on quiet roads, where you will get to enjoy the beautiful sunset over the Atlantic ocean while enjoying a sumptuous dinner before heading back to Sintra. Overnight in Sintra. 

DAY 2 - COASTAL HIKE SINTRA-CASCAIS NATURE PARK (B, L)

Transfer to fairytale town of Sintra in the morning, beautifully located on the edge to the lush green Sintra-Cascais Nature Park. A full day guided hike through the nature parks awaits you today, taking you along the blue waters and steep cliffs of the fantastic coastline. The tour will take you from Sintra to mainland Europe's most Western point Cape Roca and the small towns of Ulgueira and Azoia. Overnight in Sintra. 

DAY 3 - OBIDOS - ALCOBACA - CAVES MIRA DE AIRE - TOMAR (B, L)

Visit the charming medieval village of Obidos with its white-washed houses along the small lanes and the well preserved castle, which counts to one of the seven wonders of Portugal. From here, you will head to the small town of Alcobaca, famous for the impressive Cistercian Gothic style monastery from the 12. century, which is listed as UNESCO heritage. Stop at the Grutas Mira de Aire, Portugals largest cave system,  and admire the  beautiful shapes of the stalagmites and stalactites, whose formation go back to the Middle Jurassic Age. Continue to the Templar city of Tomar, where you can spend the evening strolling through the historic center and visiting the UNESCO listed Convento de Cristo. Overnight in Tomar.

DAY 4 - HIKING THE SCHIST VILLAGES OF SERRA DA LOUSA - COIMBRA (B, L)

Today you will escape to the quiet Serra da Lousa, a scenic region in central Portugal filled with old castles, authentic villages and many hiking trails in lush and green nature. Travel back in time as you hike around the valley on old narrow forest paths and visit the scenic Schist villages of Talasnal and Casal Novo. Continue to Coimbra, where you have the rest of the afternoon free to explore the historic lanes of this beautiful UNESCO listed university town. Overnight in Coimbra. 

DAY 5 - DOURO VALLEY WINE (B, L)

The beautiful Douro Valley is known for it's scenic landscape and excellent wines grown on the romantic vineyards along the river. Make your way to a historic quinta, where you will enjoy the scenic views over a traditional lunch before touring the vineyards to learn more about the region and the tradition of the Douro wines followed by a tasting of some of the delicious wines. Overnight in The Douro Valley. 

DAY 6 - PARQUE NATURAL DO DOURO INTERNACIONAL (B, L)

Following the Douro river to its most Eastern corner of Portugal to the Spanish border, you will find the beautiful Douro Internacional Nature Park. A monumental canyon has been carved into the granite by the river and the cliffs are home to several threatened bird species. Due to it's isolated location, you will also encounter ancient heritage and traditions here which cannot be found anywhere else in Portugal. Enjoy the beautiful native fauna and flora and the panoramic views on a hiking tour and admire the cliffs from the water on a kayaking or boat trip. Overnight in the Douro Valley.

DAY 7 - PORTO (B, D)

Transfer to Porto in the morning, where a private walking tour will show you the highlights of this beautiful town, taking you through historic Ribeira quarter and to the famous port wine cellars on the banks of the Douro river. In the evening, a cooking class will introduce you to the secrets of preparing a traditional Portuguese meal, which you will then enjoy for dinner paired with selected Portuguese wines. Overnight in Porto. 

DAY 8 - DEAPRTURE

Transfer to the airport and departure
