The Azores might lack long sandy beaches, resort towns or fun parks, but the islands definitely make up for this with their awe-inspiring natural playground shaped by volcanic activity. As the focus of our trips is nature and activity, the Azores make for an amazing destination to explore with the whole family.
Despite the wonderful lush green nature and the volcanic scenery, kids will enjoy the wide choice of water activities ranging from snorkeling in the clear waters, swimming with dolphins or whale and dolphin watching tours. All islands offer various possibilities for walking, hiking and cycling tours, which can be suitable for smaller children too. Older kids will love the thrilling coasteering and canyoning adventures along the rugged coastline and the inland canyons.
From modern boutique hotels and guesthouses to rural farmstays and quintas, family accommodation is widely available and hotels are happy to cater for smaller kids too. Even though restaurant do not often offer a dedicated kids menu, it is always possible to order half portions.
The islands itself are small and easy to travel with kids as you will never have to drive for long distances. If you are planning on visiting several islands, it will be easiest to travel from island to islands by plane. The islands of Faial, Pico and Sao Jorge also have fast and frequent connections by ferry with each other.
